1,600 Walkers Hit the Streets of Adelaide for The Bloody Long Walk

Written By Agile Group

Agile Safety are proud to have provided traffic control services for the Mito Foundation, at their fundraising event The Bloody Long Walk in Adelaide last weekend.

The event saw 1,600 fundraisers walk 35km across Adelaide, starting in Carrick Hill at a bright and early 6am. Not phased by the early start, the participants ran, jogged or walked for up to 9 hours - with some people completing in an impressive 3 hours! The course took them through Botanic Park, and Torrensville, making their way to Henley Beach South, then along the coast, and finishing at lunchtime in Glenelg. Every one of the 45,930 steps, was in aid of raising funds and awareness for the Mito Foundation - a not-for-profit, who fund research and patient support for the debilitating genetic disorder, Mitochondrial Disease.

Working with their events agency The Shift, Agile Safety prepared a traffic management plan, permits, and provided traffic control services for the event to keep the traffic flowing and the attendees of the event safe from passing motorists. In order to cause minimal impact to the residents of Adelaide, the event involved no road closures, and the route guided the walkers mostly on footpaths. We set up a traffic control scheme and provided trained traffic controllers across various locations on event day, ensuring that walkers were clearly guided and able to navigate the track easily, without straying off-course or encountering dangerous situations for pedestrians.

The fundraising target was $375,000 and they have reached $373,899 so far. The Bloody Long Walk is held in various cities across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Brisbane, with more dates in other cities coming up soon.
